At A Heart’s Key Communal Care Alliance, volunteers are the heartbeat of our mission. Whether you have one hour a month or several hours a week, your presence can bring comfort, connection, and community to Black, Brown, Queer, disabled, aging, and underserved families navigating care, crisis, and loss.

Below are meaningful ways to get involved across our four core programs:

1. Direct Support Program: “Hands of Help” Volunteers

Support families navigating medical, caregiving, and financial hardship.

Ways to Volunteer:

  • Deliver essential items, groceries, or care packages to families.
  • Assist with .
  • Help coordinate resource drives (food, hygiene kits, assistive devices).
  • Support administrative tasks like intake calls or community referrals.

2. Legacy 5155 & Last Wishes Program: “Memory Makers” Volunteers

Honor stories, rituals, and meaningful final wishes.

Ways to Volunteer:

  • Help facilitate memory-making activities 
  • Support families in planning and coordinating legacy experiences.
  • Coordinate transportation assistance or on-site support for legacy events.
  • Assist with cultural, spiritual, or family-centered rituals (as appropriate and trained).

3. Bereavement & Grief Support Program: “Compassion Companions” Volunteers

Walk alongside families navigating loss with tenderness and respect.

Ways to Volunteer:

  • Co-facilitate or support healing circles, memorial spaces, and remembrance events.
  • Provide grief support follow-up calls (after training).
  • Assist with comfort kit assembly and delivery.
  • Serve as a peer support presence during community gatherings or vigils.

4. Community Literacy Program: “Community Educators & Advocates”

Help empower families with knowledge, tools, and confidence.

Ways to Volunteer:

  • Help with workshop logistics, set-up, registration, and tech support.
  • Serve as community ambassadors, sharing our events, tools, and resources.
  • Assist with curriculum preparation or educational materials.
  • Support translation, accessibility, and community outreach to marginalized groups.
